Pinterest Account Suspensions & Spam Filter Bugs?

Published about 2 months agoΒ β€’Β 4 min read

More Suspended Accounts, The Google Traffic Connection, and New Links for Affiliates

Hey pinning friend,

How are ya?

Q1 turned out to be way busier than I expected, but I'm still truckin' along over her in Pinterestland.

Let's go over some recent happenings that might be affecting your account or your client accounts.πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Suspended/Deactivated Accounts

We haven't had this issue in quite awhile, but over the last few weeks, I've been hearing more and more people suddenly finding their account suspended for no apparent reason.

Usually, when this happens, it means Pinterest is making changes to their anti-spam engine, Guardian.

Guardian reduces large waves of spam by deploying actions to identify and label spam users and spammy domains.

One of those actions is "deactivate_user" which is why we're seeing more account suspensions this month.

😬 Unfortunately, good accounts can get lumped in with spam accounts, and there isn't much we can do about this outside of:

  • following best practices and
  • keeping the Rules of Pinterest outlined in Scheduling Shortcuts.

BUT...

Even if you're an ⭐️A+ perfect⭐️ Pinterest creator, your account can still get lumped in by mistake.

Fortunately, if your account does get caught up in a spam sweep, Pinterest has been pretty quick to reinstate good accounts.

How to Get an Account Back Quickly

If you've been affected by this recent wave (or are affect in the future), don't panic!

First, appeal the suspension by clicking on the Appeal button in the email sent to the email address connected to the suspended account.

Sometimes this is enough, but often you may get a response that your request has been denied and the suspension will remain.

But, seriously, don't panic.

Immediately reach out to Pinterest here and select Appeals > Appeal Account Suspension.

Make sure you include the email of the suspended account (and your email under Additional Emails if contacting them about a client account).

Pinterest Support has been reinstating accounts within 24-36 hours on average, so try to be patient (even though I know it's HARD! πŸ₯²).

About That Spam...

If you ever want to see if spam is taking over your keywords, look at multiple (relevant) high-volume search queries using Pin Inspector [affiliate link btw].

I do this every couple of months for each of my clients to monitor for algorithm changes, spam takeovers, and trends in their niches.

It's not something you can jump in and make broad conclusions right out of the gate. Every search and niche is so different.

During one of these sessions, I found a TON of spam sites within a cluster of keywords...

All of the domains ending in .dev are all using stolen pin images linked back to their own spammy sites:

(P.S. I've also recently seen spam domains ending in .lol πŸ™„ -- ugh)

This isn't anything new, but I want you to be aware so that when you see domains like this, you 🚨 report them! 🚨

>> I always report the stolen pin AND the spam account.

Double whammy.

Pinterest has done a great job at keeping spam under control on the platform, but we know it's not perfect.

So, anytime you see spam, please please 🚨 report it! 🚨

Is the Spam Filter "Bug" Back?

I'm seeing several reports of major analytics drops that look just like the dreaded spam filter "bug" of 2020-2021:

I don't have enough data to say there's a direct correlation between these accounts yet.

BUT, I do have some suspicions...🧐

So, if you manage an account that is seeing a crazy drop like this, please reply to this email or message me on Facebook or on Instagram to see if we can connect some dots.

It's pretty obvious that Pinterest is suppressing/shadow banning something, and I'd love to get down to the bottom of it. πŸ”

PMM πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» Q2 Enrollment Opens TODAY

The Pinterest Manager Mastermind is now well into it's second year, and it has truly lived up to it's name...

Everyday, PMM members put our brains together on our Slack channel... and I have to say, it's been pretty magical.✨

If you're looking for some serious support and for the opportunity to be at the forefront of what's happening with the Pinterest algorithm, the PMM is the place for you!

It's perfect for Pinterest service providers who want:

  • small group Zoom calls each month - you pick the topics!
  • a safe place to vent or ask for help without wondering if potential clients are seeing your posts (like in the FB group)
  • all the swipe files & templates you need to run your PM biz - every document I use in my business is yours!
  • more visibility & clients - get early access to client leads and get featured on the LRS Recommended Pinterest Manager Page
  • a support system you can lean on - get solid advice and encouragement whenever you need it!

Currently, enrollment is only open to Pinterest managers who have taken my strategy course, Scheduling Shortcuts. If this sounds like a good fit for you, and you HAVE taken the course, you should see a button to learn more about PMM below:

If you don't see a big pink button above, that means you HAVEN'T taken the course.

But...

I'm thinking about adding an option for non-students to join PMM which will include a major discount on Scheduling Shortcuts (as a bundle).

>> Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in!

Happy pinning,

Amy

Welllllll hello, my friend! I hope you had a good weekend. Yesterday, we celebrated an early Thanksgiving with my out-of-town family (many of them I haven't seen in over a year!). It was good to catch up with everyone, and the weather was perfect. Enough about me, let’s jump into some (kinda surprising) Pinterest news, shall we? Pinterest *Actually* Did It Back in May, Pinterest announced that all pin formats would be unified as one format: Pins. Part of that announcement was that static and...
